Based on the novel by Jules Renard, The Red Head is considered one of the best films by Julien Duvivier, who also directed Pépé le Moko and made the first episode of the famous saga about Peppone and Don Camillo. Duvivier shot this first version before making a talking picture about the same story in 1932. Abused by a horrible mother and mocked by an overly selfish brother and sister, confronted with the indifference of his father, Poil de Carotte decides to hang himself. But his father saves him and the two of them find themselves together in the face of adversity.
