After a military victory, the valiant Othello chooses to promote Cassio (Theodor Loos) over another of his followers, Iago (Werner Krauss). This choice has terrible consequences. True to his treacherous nature, Iago devises a plan to bring Cassio down. He convinces Othello that his wife, Desdemona (Ica von Lenkeffy), is having an affair with the promoted man. Othello is consumed by jealousy…

In Buchowetzki’s remarkable adaptation of Othello, Emil Jannings gives an outstanding performance, managing to express the inner turmoil that would later become his trademark.
