THE BEGGAR’S OPERA

New translation and dramaturgical adaptation of John Gay’s opera by Giuseppe Di Leva. It takes us from the underbelly of 18th century London to present-day Bologna. The Beggar’s Opera is one of the earliest examples of the musical in the history of theatre (from which Bertholt Brecht and Kurt Weill drew inspiration for The Threepenny Opera). A crowd of thieves and prostitutes, receivers and crooks, speaking different dialects, with Peppe Servillo as the shady receiver, Angela Baraldi (the wife), Marco Alemanno and opera singer Borja Quiza Martinez (Captain Macheath), under the direction of Lucio Dalla.
