Sadie Thompson (Gloria Swanson), a charming dancer-singer from Los Angeles who wants to start a new life, arrives one day on the South Sea island of Pago Pago. Missionary Alfred Davidson (Lionel Barrymore) and his family are travelling on the same boat. They are all staying at the same inn and Sadie’s innocent but scandalous visitors cause a scandal… Sadie Thompson bears the unmistikable signature of Raoul Walsh, with extraordinary performances by Gloria Swanson, Lionel Barrymore and Walsh himself. A film that fascinates and moves, thanks to Walsh who, on the of the appearance of sound cinema, offers us one last great silent masterpiece.
