The ALEA ENSEMBLE Quartet, Andrea Rognoni and Fiorenza De Donatis (vln), Stefano Marcocchi (v), Marco Frezzato (vlc), performs :

‘STRING QUARTET Op 2 IN C MINOR’ by Luigi Boccherini

‘STRING QUARTET IN E FLAT MAJOR’No. 0 Op 1 Hob II 6 by Franz Joseph Haydn

A portrait of the renewed interest in musicology – and consequently in performers – in the musical output and career of Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805). A native of Tuscany, Boccherini became famous throughout Europe for his talents as an artist and businessman. He was known both as a cello virtuoso and as the initiator of one of the first chamber groups in the modern sense. He was also a composer and produced numerous concertos, symphonies, sacred music and quartets. We offer two quartets performed by the new Alea Ensemble, as well as a quartet by Haydn, of whom Boccherini was a contemporary and, in some ways, an artistic rival.
