The typist Lucienne Garnier (L. Brooks) is elected ‘Miss Europe’ without her fiancé’s (G. Charlia) knowledge but, despite the flattery, resigns herself to being a respectable housewife until she runs away with a prince (J. Bradin) who launches her into the world of cinema…
Augusto Genina’s melodrama has its strong point in the presence of its leading lady Louise Brooks. Written by René Clair based on an idea by Pabst (who was also initially appointed to direct it), the film began in 1929 in a silent version until, halfway through shooting, spoken sequences were inserted in four languages (English, French, German and Italian).
