To keep her employer (F. Morgan) at bay, lively Louise (M. Sullavan), an usher in a cinema, invents a husband, Max Sporum. She soon discovers, however, that there really is an ambitious, penniless young man (H. Marshall) by that name. When he enters the scene, misunderstandings multiply, also because Louise’s young suitors are more than one…
William Wyler’s film is based on the play ‘The Good Fairy’ by Hungarian Ferenc Molnar and freely adapted by the brilliant Preston Sturges with a wealth of witty dialogue and old farcical characters.
