In 1920s Paris, old Baudu (A. Bour), the owner of an old textile shop, is crushed by the competition from Octabe Mouret (P. de Guingand) with his department store ‘Au bonheur des dames’. When his daughter (N. Sibirskaia) dies and he learns that his niece Denise (D. Parlo) has been seduced by Mouret, he loses his head and shoots him. The Temple of Temptation is Julien Duvivier’s last silent film, a film so successful that a sound version was made. Based on a work by Emile Zola, The Ladies’ Paradise, the film stars the famous diva Dita Parlo, star of Jean Vigo’s L’Atalante.
