Le losche trame del conte Sergius Karamzin che, insieme a due cugine, Olga e Vera, affitta una villa a Montecarlo e stringe amicizia con il diplomatico americano Andrew J. Hughes. Il conte corteggia la moglie del diplomatico mentre questi scopre che le due cugine barano al casinò. Hughes comprende l’imbroglio del conte e lo sfida a duello.
