Directed and starring Victor Sjostrom, who was not yet forty years old at the time, the film tells the story of the brave fisherman Terje Vigen who, during the Napoleonic wars, ventures out to sea to find something to feed his wife and daughter. After ending up in forbidden waters, the fisherman is arrested and held in prison until the end of the conflict. When he returns to his island, he discovers that his family has been destroyed, but the chance that destiny offers him, to take revenge on the ruthless officer who arrested him, disappears in the face of the suffering of another wife and daughter…
