A New York theatre company happens to attend a civil war melodrama staged by a provincial theatre company directed by Ginger Bolivar (Bessi Love). Don Wilson (Johnnie Walker), a famous Broadway actor, is hired as a backup actor, but unrecognised, he appears under the false name of Harry Mann. Don’s friends, who witness the event, laugh out loud and enthusiastically decide to bring the whole group to New York to continue the fun. When Ginger discovers she has been duped, she decides to give up her career as an actress, but it is Don who makes her change her mind. A young Capra, already adept at directing a story full of twists and turns, makes a film with a superb acting style, a mixture of drama and comedy with hilarious moments.
